Dear Parents,

 

As Spring approaches, we have a large number of volunteer opportunities at University Park. All of the PTA-sponsored events at the school are free and depend on a team of volunteers… some volunteering many hours during the day, others a couple of hours after work, some working with math groups and others using specialized skills in finance or graphic design. Please take a moment to review our current needs and see where YOU can help. As you read on, you will see the list is long. With small children and busy work schedules, not everyone can take on a big assignment; but we all can do something!

 
Family Fun “Spring Carnival" - Sponsorship Volunteer Needed!
This year will be our biggest Spring Carnival, yet, with a circus, face painting, carnival games, petting zoo and more! To keep this event free, UP relies on local business to sponsor this event . Sponsorship provides advertising opportunities, including advertising banners on the school fence. The PTA needs a volunteer to make phone calls reaching out to local businesses to recruit sponsors. If you are able to volunteer, please email Simone at smferrara@yahoo.com. The flyer is attached, if your business would like to sponsor the event.
 
Scholastic Book Fair, March 24-30 - We need a large number of volunteers, with  commitment!
UP’s Scholastic Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity for our students to buy books and have fun reading, while also providing books for our library and classrooms. This annual event is pulled off with the help of many volunteers. There are time slots available before, during and after school, as well as a couple of evenings. UP’s Got Talent! - Lighting Expert Wanted!
Our first UP Talent Show is already shaping up to be an amazing event. UP certainly does have talent; there will be 35-37 acts in the show. We would love to dramatically improve the quality of the show with lighting. If you or anyone you know has lighting equipment and/or skills that could add to the show, please email: cjgack@hotmail.com.
 
Annual Student Vision and Hearing Screening, Monday, March 27 - Four volunteers still needed!
Volunteers needed from 8am-11am.
 
 
Spring Picture Day, Wednesday, March 29 - Two volunteers needed
Volunteer from 8:00am-10:30am or 10:15am-1pm(ish) or both! Volunteers will receive a free spring photo package from Lifetouch.

News 10/26/15

 

Wow! If you think there has been a lot going on at U.P., you are not alone.  Every week we have had something and that's why we are so thankful that we had our first Dine Out event at Blaze Pizza.  What a great way for the U.P. community to get together and enjoy each other's company over some delicious pizza. These types of social events are good for our kids to continue to grow bonds of friendship outside of school.  Be sure to check out the pictures on the events page!

 

We also made the announcements of our Reflections winners that will now be entered to compete in the district.  A big THANK YOU goes out to Meena Mokkapati who coordinated this event at our school.  Without her efforts, U.P. would not have been able to participate.  Good luck to the winners as you move on to the next level!  You can check out the list of winners on our Reflections page in the Events tab.

News 10/13/15

 

 

Last week, on Tuesday 10/06/15,  the PTA hosted a "Parent Education Night" about PBIS.  PBIS is short for "Positive Behavior Interventions and Support".  Our guest speaker, Marie Williams, gave an informative and meaningful presentation about IUSD's policy and program for the entire district. We had nearly 40 parents come and learn so much about what the schools in Irvine are doing with PBIS and what parents can do at home to support the program.  Principal Amoroso then offered some vital information about how PBIS works at UP and what are the behavior policies that are in place at our school.  I can't say enough positive things about how well Marie explained everything AND she was tremendously engagin.  It was a pleasure to learn from her experience as an IUSD teacher, staff member and parent!

 

Parents also enjoyed some coffee and dessert compliments of Cielo Coffee.  Thank you to all who came to this event.  If you missed this event and would like to view the power point presentation and recieve the hand outs you are in luck.  WE have posted everything on our "Parent Education" page under PBIS night.  Check it out here

 
Last week we also recieved our first shipment of Spirit Wear and should be receiving another one this week.  We have a volunteer that will be handling delivery and distribution of the orders when they arrive.  We will be adding new items soon , just in time for the holidays, so be sure to check out online store when we make the announcement.  Prices will go up starting December 1st so be sure to order today!
 
One last thought.  I encourage all of you to take a moment and read through the weekly update emails that Ms. Amoroso sends.  We are all busy BUT if you want to know what is happening at UP those emails are a great way to find out!

News 9/28/15

 

 

Last Friday we had a Bike Festival and Rodeo and it was a tremendous success.  In case you missed it, kids and parents that attended got their bikes registered, tried a rodeo course, attempted the inflatable obstacle course, heard a safety presentation from an Irvine Police Officer and got prizes for completing a scavenger hunt.  ALL of this for FREE!  Go to the Photo Gallery on our events page to check out the pictures.

 
Our frozen yogurt vendor, Snobird, was there to sell frozen yogurt delights to everyone who needed something cool.  A BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Welch for donating her time to help out with this part of our event.  The PTA made $127 in forzen yogurt sales!
 
October 9th is next week and that is our Membership Goal of 350 deadline.  We are currently hovering at round 200.  We are more than half way there. It's not too late to join.

News 9/21/15

 

Congratulations to Mrs. Weingart and her TK class on winning the "100% Membership" teacher prize basket.  She got a variety of classroom supplies as well as a $25 Target gift card.  Mrs. Weingart also won the 1st Teacher member prize and will be getting a free spirit wear shirt.  Thank you Mrs. Weingart and TK families for supporting the PTA at UP!

 
Thank you to all who came to our coffee with the Principal and association meeting last Friday.  We had coffee and doughnuts and lots of great conversation.  We got our audit approved as well as the budget and calendar and got our agenda done in under 30 minutes.  We announced that the PTA will be supporting 2 new programs this year.  One is "Art Masters" for grades K-3 and the other is "Walk Through History" for grades 4-6.  These programs are considered part of PTA's goal to provide student enrichment in addition to their current curriculum.  Ms. Amoroso gave a presentation on our current scores and standings and plans for the school year ahead.  Great question and answer time as well!
 
Membership is going well but we could do better!! We have a goal of 350 members by October 9th and we are currently at 181.  Only 169 more to go.  Membership has perks at school and at outside vendors such as LegoLand, Discovery Cube, Staples, Enterprise and more.
 
Spirit Wear is selling!  We are working with our vendor to set-up a sample size cart.  We should be expecting our first delivery of orders the week of September 25th.  We have a volunteer that will be handling delivery and distribution of the orders when they arrive.  It is still not too late to order!

Panther PTA News 9/14/15

Thank you to all the families that signed up to become members of the UP PTA at Back to School Night.  We had set a goal of 100 for the night and ended up at 89.  We still have an overall goal of 350 by October 9th so let's keep that momentum going!

Our first association meeting is on Friday, 09/18/15 at 8:15am in the MPR, right after flag deck.  We will start the morning with a "coffee with the Principal" and begin our meeting. ALL members and future members are encouraged to come.  We will be presenting the budget and reviewing the events and programs that are planned for the year PLUS goals for new programs in the future.

A Message from our PTA President

 

 

Greetings University Park Elementary!

 

As the newly elected PTA president, I would like to welcome back returning University Park Elementary (UP) students and families! I also extend a heartfelt welcome to our new UP families! To all of you, I look forward to making 2015-2016 a fun and productive year.

Our PTA calendar is already booked with all the wonderful programs and activities that benefit our school and our students.  I am looking forward to working with the PTA Executive Board and Committee Chairs and all our volunteers to what promises to be an amazing year.  The programs and events that we plan are designed to support and enhance the educational and social environment of our students while building a sense of community for the families at UP.

The overall purpose of the PTA is to first and foremost support our students. In addition, it supports the faculty, staff, parents, and the local community. “Every Child-One Voice” is the National PTA motto and the PTA is one of the strongest voices in the educational process that directly supports our children and school.

 

A vital element to an effective and successful PTA is the support and involvement of the parents and of our students.  Your first opportunity to show support is to become a member of the University Park PTA.  We encourage each of you to show your commitment by joining.  The second way to show your support will be to volunteer in the numerous exciting events and programs that we have planned throughout the year. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in the PTA because they cannot attend meetings or be at school during the day. The good news is that we have volunteer opportunities that can be done around your schedule.  The time you give to the UP PTA and the school will be worth your while - and fun!
